Cost Reduction

The NHS in England aimed to deliver ambitious financial efficiencies of £1 billion. A programme was devised to analyse NHS data and develop innovative ways of working to spread nationwide.

Programme savings were derived from supply chain efficiency, renegotiation of primary care contracts, enforcing prescription payments, re-design of patient care pathways and medicines optimisation.

The programme delivered recurrent savings of £1.2 billion, a sum sufficient to fund 3 NHS Trusts or 37,000 additional NHS nurses every year.
